Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. She founded Feminist Frequency the website which hosts videos and commentary analyzing depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational not-for-profit website that explores representations of women in pop media narratives. Alongside working to bring awareness to the targeted and sexist assaults on women and as well as other minorities, she is committed to breaking down stereotypes that are prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a early time. When she graduated in 2009, still studying at university, she created the Feminist Frequency web site. She had a plan to launch an internet series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. However, the attacks did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Many awards have been presented to her for all the contributions that she made. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winner for her work as a media critic. She is also the founder and director of Feminist Frequency a nonprofit educational group that focuses on pop-culture gender representations.
